Monroe Community Insights and Homes for Sale

A Taste of the Old South ~ Louisianne Subdivision is located off Forsythe Ave. and is convenient to shopping, schools, parks, recreation and the Interstate.  With a median home price of $300,000 this luxurious neighborhood is designed to have smaller yards, focusing on private courtyards and a southern ambiance.

Take a Stroll Down a Forgotten Time ~ The Monroe Garden District, previously called The Monroe Residential Historic District, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is conveniently located in the heart of Monroe. It consists of over 600 structures in a variety of architectural styles. Development of the neighborhood began in 1891 and is embraced on the North and West by the Ouachita River.

The Garden District area has many local restaurants, jogging areas, the elegant home of Joseph Biedenharn - the first bottler of Coca-Cola, ELsong Gardens, the Bible Museum, the Coca-Cola Museum, the America Legion Hall, and Forsythe Park. Forsythe Park is a 53-acre park with playgrounds, a nine-hole golf course, tennis courts, softball, baseball and soccer fields. A public boat launch and bike trail are just over the levee along the river.

Creative Southern Cuisine ~ One of my favorite places to dine in Monroe is Restaurant Cotton.  It is located in a turn-of-the-century cotton warehouse and is one of the oldest buildings in Downtown Monroe on the Ouachita River.  Chef Cory Bahr, a Monroe native, opened in 2011 after being named King of Louisiana Seafood and “Chef to Watch” by Louisiana Cookin’ Magazine.  In 2012, he won and episode of Food Network's cooking competition show - Chopped.  His dishes are out of this world with fresh and local ingredients.  I've enjoyed every meal that he's prepared at this premier restaurant.  It is true southern cuisine!
